Doug Leonard Named Race Director at Humberstone Speedway
PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (March 10, 2021) Humberstone Speedway owner/promoter Terry Vince has named Doug Leonard as Race Director of the Port Colborne, Ontario facility beginning in 2021.
Doug Leonard is currently serving as Race Director at both Ohsweken and Flamboro Speedway, along with duties with the Action Sprint Tour and the newly formed Knights of Thunder 360 Sprint Car Series. Leonard also serves as Race Director with the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series.
“Doug brings all the experience to Humberstone and he has assembled a new team of staff that will make racing at Humberstone as efficient as possible,” comments Humberstone Speedway Promoter Terry Vince.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to get to work at Humberstone Speedway,” Leonard said. “I’ve helped previous ownership/promoters in the past and directed some Action Sprint Tour races there, but to be there weekly will be fun.” Leonard said that “it is a job I love to do, and I am really excited to work with Terry (Vince). His passion is incredible and the changes he has already made to the facility are impressive and I cannot wait to see the finished product.
When Leonard and Vince met a couple of weeks ago, he immediately started working the phones on the drive home to put together his staff. “We have put together what I feel is a great staff with a lot of experience,” Leonard explained. “Some familiar faces, yet we will have some changes. We have a couple of positions to fill and we are in talks with those individuals.”
With Leonard being Race Director at Ohsweken Speedway, he says it is a benefit to be familiar with the drivers that race at the facility. “You learn their tendencies and driving style, they learn how I like to run a show,” he said. “At times we have different opinions, but if you explain your reasoning of a call, they will understand. Having built relationships certainly helps to have some of those tough discussions”.
Humberstone Speedway is tentatively opening the gates for the first time in 2021 on Sunday, May 23rd with an Open House along with a test & tune session. The season opener will take place the following week, Sunday, May 30 with Crate Sprint Cars, Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks on the racing card.
